Coldheart Canyon brings together Todd Pickett, a movie star whose career is faltering, and Tammy Lauper, a fan whose interest in him has become an obsession. That is as much of the set-up as I want to give away. If you prefer to open a horror book knowing only enough to feel uneasy, you can stop there. The internet could learn a little restraint.
For me, the uncomfortable idea is how differently two people can understand the same connection. A fan may feel close to someone who has never met them. Put obsession into that gap and it becomes frightening without needing anything to jump out of a cupboard. Based on the set-up, I would expect unease more than a constant need to check behind the sofa. I would still keep a light on. That is between me and the light.
I would put this on the reading pile for a quiet, late night when you want a horror story rooted in people and the ways they see one another. It is also a good choice if you like to think about what being watched might feel like from the other side. Make a drink, get comfortable, and let the book tell you the rest.
