He's home from college, walking a field, and there it is: an ear, just lying in the grass. Most people would ring the police and leave it there. He doesn't. That one decision pulls him into a nightclub singer's troubles and a conspiracy that was sitting under his tidy little town the whole time, waiting to be noticed.

This isn't the sort of horror that jumps out at you. It's the sort that gets into the wallpaper. The lawns stay green, the kitchens stay clean, and somehow that makes it worse, not better.

It's for the night when you want your unease slow and specific rather than loud. Not one for the sofa with the lights off and popcorn on your knee expecting a laugh. Put the kettle on, dim one lamp, and let it sit with you.

Kyle MacLachlan carries the not knowing rather well, and Dennis Hopper is the reason you won't sleep easy after.
