This is the spin-off that asks what the beginning of the end looked like somewhere other than the original show's corner of it. The first stretch follows a blended family as the world they know starts to slip, quietly at first, then not quietly at all. It never rushes you towards the horror. It lets you sit in the unease of ordinary life going wrong.
The fear here isn't jump scares. It's the creeping kind, the sort that comes from watching people you've grown fond of make small, human decisions while everything around them stops making sense. That slow unravelling is more unsettling than any single shock, and it lingers the way a bad dream does.
It's one for anyone already fond of the wider Walking Dead world, or for anyone who likes their apocalypse told from a fresh set of nerves. Later on it runs alongside the original series rather than before it, with Morgan Jones eventually wandering into frame, which is a nice thread to follow if you already know him.
Best kept for a night when you've got no plans to go anywhere after. Eight seasons is a proper commitment, and it deserves the sofa, not half your attention.
