Alien: Covenant

This one picks up after Prometheus. A colony ship called Covenant is carrying settlers to a new world when the crew catch a signal from a planet that was never on their charts. It looks close enough to home to be worth a detour, so a small team goes down to take a look. It should be routine. It is not.

What they find there starts small and gets wrong very fast, the sort of dread that creeps in before you've worked out what you're looking at. Something is already down there waiting, and once it finds them there's no polite way to describe what happens next. It's the kind of fear that lives in the quiet stretches between the noise, right up until it isn't quiet any more.

Ridley Scott directs, with Michael Fassbender carrying much of the weight, and Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Demián Bichir among the crew who are nowhere near ready for what they've walked into. Watch it with the lights off and something to grip onto, because this is not a gentle one.
