It: Chapter Two

Twenty seven years after the first film left off, the grown up Losers Club gets the phone call none of them wanted and heads back to Derry to finish what they started as kids. Something has woken up under that town again, and it remembers every one of them by name.

This is the second half of the story, so the dread comes from things half glimpsed rather than jump scares alone, though there are plenty of those too. Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise is back, and he has had nearly three decades to get creative. It plays on the specific fear each character never quite grew out of.

Put this one on for a proper night in, ideally with the first film already fresh in your memory and something to hide behind for the long stretch it runs. It rewards people who liked spending time with these characters as much as being scared by what is chasing them.

It closes out the two part telling of Stephen King's novel, and there is something satisfying about watching childhood fears get dragged into adult life and dealt with properly, for better or worse.
