This one follows Ed and Lorraine Warren as they're pulled into a court case rather than just a haunted house, and it's all the stranger for being tied to a real 1981 murder trial where a demonic possession was offered as a defence. There's a shift in shape here: instead of one family in one building, the trouble follows a person out into the wider world.
The scares lean into that unease of something following someone rather than staying put behind four walls. There's a slow, creeping dread as the investigators start pulling at a thread that neither the courts nor the church quite know what to do with.
Put this on for a night when you fancy the comfort of the Warrens doing what they do, but want something a bit less haunted house and a bit more "did that actually happen". Have someone else on the sofa for this one, ideally someone who won't want the lights left on after.
